Things are moving along quickly now. You have done all the required research, decided on a location for your destination wedding, chosen a venue, and now you want to make sure that the people who are important to you will be there.
Sending save-the-date cards has become an accepted part of many types of weddings. Keep in mind however, they are particularly important for destination weddings because such events require more than the usual commitment of time and money.
Asking guests to save the date
To ensure that some of your favorite people are not on vacation, hosting their own nuptials with the same guest list, or scheduling elective surgery for the week of your wedding, it’s a good idea to give them a written heads-up four to six months in advance of the wedding date.
For informal weddings, the easiest and least expensive way to create a save the date card is to send a postcard. These can be fun wedding themed postcards that let your personalities shine through. If however, you want something more formal, perhaps use a theme that carries on throughout all of the other items sent out such as your wedding invitations, thank you cards, and announcements.
The save the date wording should be kept simple and to the point. Something like this would be perfect.
Dearest friends and family,
Well, it’s really happening. We’re actually going to make it legal. Of course, you wouldn’t expect us, to do the usual would you? That would be too easy! So…
Please save these dates.
The weekend of Friday November 6 to Sunday November 8, 2009
To join us as we formalize our bond, on the island of Jamaica.
We would be truly delighted to have you there!
Further details to follow shortly…
With love,
Debbie and Joe
Although you’ve given guests fair warning, you will still need to send out wedding invitations at least six weeks before the wedding.
If your wedding weekend has an air of formality, or if various parties each have different hosts (such as the rehearsal dinner or next-day brunch), you may send out separate invitations for each event, as well.
You have several options when considering your stationary. The most common approach is of course, traditionally printed stationary products. Another option, if you are ambitious, creative, and eager to save money, is to consider making your own handmade invitations. The third option, using software packages available today, you can produce an invitation that’s near professional quality. However printing your own wedding invitations doesn’t always save you money as color printing is very costly. The fourth option is something completely unique that combines the all of the options above. Find out about this unique stationary system for sending save-the-date cards and all of your wedding stationary needs. Better yet, try it for yourself absolutely free!
In the next post, we’ll look at what information you will need to supply to the invitees who will be attending your special event!
